Every Little Detail
When was the last time you paused just to contemplate how big God is. I’m not just talking about at the macro level. We all can immediately explain how He created everything…out of nothing and how He is sovereign over all things and everyone. He is omnipotent and has inexplainable power over everything. He is omnipresent and can be everywhere at the same time. But take a deeper look beyond all the big things around us and even the big things in our lives. Look at all the little details of your own life today, things that most people may not be familiar with. Multiply that by the number of days you’ve been alive. Then multiply that by the number of people who are on the earth and even the entire population for all time. Every one of those details are known by God. He is omniscient.
Omniscience is not usually the first thing that comes to mind when thinking about God, but it is an attribute that only God possesses. It would be one thing just to know everything, but God is so much bigger than that. God not only knows, but He is intimately familiar with every little detail in each of our lives. Luke 12:7 tells us that every strand of hair on our head is numbered, at every moment of the day as it changes. When you comb or brush your hair and a strand gets pulled out, that doesn’t go unnoticed.
The psalmist wrote in Psalms 139:1-6, “Lord, you have searched me and known me. You know when I sit down and when I stand up; you understand my thoughts from far away. You observe my travels and my rest; you are aware of all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue, you know all about it, Lord. You have encircled me; you have placed your hand on me. This wondrous knowledge is beyond me. It is lofty; I am unable to reach it.”
It is estimated that there are more than 4 new babies born every second across this planet. God is not only aware of that, He knows each infant intimately; how long each one of them will live, what their future holds, and especially which ones are going to spend eternity with Him. The psalmist continues in 139:13-16, "For it was you who created my inward parts; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I will praise you because I have been remarkably and wondrously made. You works are wondrous, and I know this very well. My bones were not hidden from you when I was made in secret, when I was formed in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw me when I was formless; all my days were written in your book and planned before a single one of them began. Before each one of us were born, in fact, according to Ephesians 1:4, even before the world was created, God already knew and chose each one of us.
Right now, as you read this, each one of us is dealing with some type of difficulty, challenge, trial, or sin. Some of us just might be weary and tired. An important thing to remember is that we are not alone in this endeavor. We also don’t have to “pull a number” and wait in a line for God to respond to us and our needs. We can have the confidence that God not only responds to our pleas for help, He already is aware of them. He even knows the outcome. The fact that God simultaneously knows every detail about each one of our lives and is caring for us, better than any physician, psychologist, financial advisor, (name any occupation), just blows my mind! So, our first response in dealing with any difficulty in our life should be bringing it to our God and Father; the one who created us, knows us intimately, knows what we are capable of handling, and most importantly loves us more than anyone else ever could. He knows every little detail in every situation we’re dealing with and already knows how to overcome them.
